Song Dynasty temple reappears grandeur

Chongsheng temple, located in South China's Yunnan province, was a mecca of Buddhism at the subordinated Dali kingdom in Song dynasty about one thousand years ago. The temple complex was reduced to ashes due to war and earthquake in later dynasties. Now the restored Chongsheng temple complex has just opened on Thursday to reappear its past grandeur.
Buddhist dignitaries from around China and southeast Asia took part in the opening ceremony of the restored Chongsheng temple. Lection reciting sounds are reheard in the Dali city after breaking off for centuries.
Hui Xiong said, "Chongsheng temple is not only pride of Dali people, but pride of all Mahayana disciples from around the world."
Chongsheng temple complex was built in eighth century BC during the late Tang dynasty. It later became the royal temple of Dali kindom subordinated to Song dynasty. Nine of twenty-two emperors even abdicated their regality to became monks here which examplified Buddhism was highly valued during that period.
Chongsheng temple reappears among the idyllic mountain and water scenery in Yunnan's Dali city. It's expected to attract throngs of monks as well as visitors from around the world.
