新加坡东南亚研究所那烂陀室利佛逝国中心落成启用

据《newkerala》报道，2009年8月11日，由新加坡居士林、新加坡外交部以及新加坡李氏基金会出资建立的新加坡东南亚研究所“那烂陀—室利佛逝国”中心正式落成启用。诺贝尔经济学奖得主阿马蒂亚·森（Amartya Sen）和新加坡外交部长杨荣文主持启用典礼。

据悉，阿马蒂亚·森和杨荣文两位皆为2007年为复兴那烂陀大学而建立的那烂陀顾问团的成员。

该中心负责人表示该中心的主要目的是挖掘古代亚洲社会各方面文化交流的“蛛丝马迹”，以作借古鉴今之用。研究区域主要集中在印度、中国、东南亚国家以及曾位于苏门答腊岛的古代马来王国——室利佛逝国。

据悉，新加坡将于2011年复原2500年前的古那烂陀研究所，建立那烂陀国际大学。（编译：子规）

The centre named ''Nalanda-Sriwijaya'' at the Institute of South Asian Studies would open next Tuesday, almost two years ahead of the revival of Nalanda International University, a reincarnation of the institution that existed about 2,500 years ago in the ancient city of Nalanda.

The centre is being funded by the Singapore Buddhist Lodge, the Foreign Ministry and the Lee Foundation in Singapore, according to a report in the Straits Times today.

The centre aims to study ways in which Asian societies have interacted over time, its director Dr Tansen Sen said.

He explained that the focus would be on India, China and Southeast Asia, as well as the ancient Malay kingdom of ''Sriwijaya,'' which was based on the Sumatra Island.

Noble laureate Amartya Sen and Singapore Foreign Minister Mr George Yeo would officiate the opening of the centre. The two are also members of the Nalanda Mentor Group, which was set up in 2007 to revive the Nalanda University.
